Professor Frank Maraist was known for asking his students, “Are you running with me?,” as a way of judging their comprehension and zeroing in on those suspected of losing track during his fast-paced lectures!
In December, a group of former students, friends and colleagues, launched a campaign to name The Frank L. Maraist Lecture Hall (Room 110) in honor of their teacher, mentor, friend and colleague. The steering committee, led by Ralph E. Kraft (’75), has been hard at work during the silent phase of the campaign, raising nearly $200,000 toward the $500,000 goal.
Almost four decades of LSU law students were beneficiaries of Professor Maraist’s extensive network, with many owing their early careers to the “unofficial, but very effective, “Maraist Placement Office.” He was known for staying in touch, remaining a mentor to literally thousands of former students.
Let’s make sure he knows — we’re running with him! The campaign was the brainchild of our beloved colleague, Cheney Joseph. We hope you’ll help us finish what Cheney started — paying tribute to LSU icon Frank L. Maraist. A similar drive will take place this spring to honor Cheney. Stay tuned for more information.
The committee hopes to conclude theĀ formal campaign at the end of February, so please consider making your gift today.
