John Bel Edwards (’99) Sworn in as Governor of Louisiana

John Bel Edwards was sworn in today as the 56th Governor of Louisiana.  A 1999 graduate of the LSU Law Center, Edwards graduated as a member of The Order of the Coif and served on the Louisiana Law Review. Prior to his election as governor, Edwards served as the State Representative for Louisiana District 72.

Edwards is a 1988 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he was on the Dean’s list.  He was chosen by his classmates as the Vice Chairman of the Honor Committee in Charge of Investigations.  He served eight years active duty with the US Army as an Airborne Ranger, which culminated with command of a rifle company in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

LSU Law graduates Robert F. Kennon (’25), John McKeithen (’42), and Edwin Edwards (’49) have previously served as Louisiana governors.
