The LSU Law Center’s chapter of the National Black Law Students Association (BLSA) brought back two awards from the Southern Region Black Law Students Association Convention: Chapter of the Year in the medium chapter division and Social Action Chapter of the Year.

The awards recognize the chapter for its campus and community outreach and involvement. BLSA has welcomed to the campus the Honorable Karen Bennett-Haro, who spoke on the school-to-prison pipeline; co-hosted the panel discussion, “A Questionable Verdict? Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman and Stand Your Ground Laws”: promoted the C-SPAN Bus Tour, an interactive multi-media learning center that brings C-SPAN’s coverage of public affairs to communities nationwide; sponsored first-year students’ study sessions and exam preparations; and volunteered at a local elementary school by reading to students and organizing a Halloween costume drive for the students.
