Veterans

The Veterans Legal Clinic at LSU provides students with the opportunity to gain experience representing former military service members.  All work is supervised by experienced faculty.

Law students enrolled in the Veterans Legal Clinic will gain experience in administrative law with Federal administrative agencies, including the VA; appealing legal claims and denials, including collaboration with doctors and mental health providers in gathering medical and mental health records; working with clients, through interviews, counseling, advocacy, and negotiation; and practicing fact investigation, case planning, negotiation, brief writing, and oral advocacy.

The classroom component explores the role of the lawyer in administrative practice and helps students develop the skills necessary to be an effective advocate. By fostering an ethic of public service, students will gain knowledge of building and maintaining a law practice that serves the needs of those least likely to have access to lawyers.
