Small Business and Community Development Clinic
The Russel J. Stutes Small Business and Community Development Clinic at LSU provides students with the opportunity to gain experience undertaking transactional legal practice in the real world. Students are challenged to take ownership of their client work and drive the representation of their real-world clients. All work is supervised by experienced faculty.
Through this clinic, students will gain experience in interviewing, counseling, case management, client communication, ethics, as well as the substantive subject matter needs of their assigned clients. Students work is highly varied but can include entity counseling and formation, working with complex federal and state regulation, contracts, employment law, copyright, trademark, and various other non-litigation corporate legal work.
In addition to client work, students will attend weekly classroom seminars in which they will be challenged to contextualize their client work, engage with important realities of legal practice, and develop career-long skills to help them grow as practitioners.
The clinic is made possible by a generous gift of LSU Law alumnus Russel “Rusty” Stutes, Jr.
