Jennifer Cooper

Assistant Professor of Law

Biography

Professor Jennifer Cooper joined the LSU Law faculty in 2024. She teaches legal writing, legal analysis, and oral advocacy skills.

Professor Cooper previously taught at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where she served as the Hartje & Reese Chair of the Lawyering Process Program, which provides students with an introduction to essential lawyering skills like research, writing, analytical thinking, and oral advocacy. She has also served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Lawyering Skills at the Seattle University School of Law, an Adjunct Professor in the online Master of Jurisprudence Programs at Tulane University Law School, and Assistant Director of the Academic Success Program at Thomas Jefferson School of Law.

After earning her undergraduate degree at Louisiana State University, Professor Cooper went on to earn her J.D. from Seattle University School of Law graduating magna cum laude. As a law student, she served as an editor of the Seattle University Law Review. She launched her legal career as an attorney with the Snohomish County Public Defender in Everett, Washington and later moved into private criminal defense practice before entering academia. Professor Cooper is licensed to practice law in Washington state, California, and Colorado.

Professor Cooper’s scholarship has been published in the Seattle University Law Review, NOVA Law Review, and St. John’s Law Review. Her best-known article, “Smarter Law Study Habits: An Empirical Analysis of Law Learning Strategies and Relationship with Law GPA,” was published in the Saint Louis University Law Journal.

She is a founding member of the Association of Academic Support Educators, a member of the Legal Writing Institute and the Association of Legal Writing Directions, and chief academic officer of Lark Academic, which provides academic resources and consulting for legal education.
