Professor Robert A. Pascal obtained his J.D. from Loyola University, New Orleans in 1939, a Master of Civil Law from Louisiana State University in 1940, and a Master of Laws from the University of Michigan in 1942. He joined the law faculty of Louisiana State University in 1945, where he taught with distinction for 35 years until he became Professor Emeritus in 1980. He has taught at the University of Chicago Law School, at the University of Rome, Italy, and at Loyola University, New Orleans. Professor Pascal has been corresponding member of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law, and consultant on trust law reform for the Louisiana State Law Institute. His expertise extends itself over the fields of Institutions of the Law, Family Law, Matrimonial Regimes, Anglo-American Real Property, Conflicts of Law, and Philosophy of Law. His notorious position as defender of the civil law of Louisiana, as teacher and scholar, are legendary. The merits accumulated in the course of his brilliant career obtained public recognition through the conferment on him of the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, by Loyola University, New Orleans, in 1995.
