Mary and Mark Schroeder Annual Scholarships

Mark (’83) and Mary (LSU ’82) Schroeder’s first non-endowed, annual scholarship was created in 2019.  The couple has previously endowed the Lee Andrew Gallapsy Memorial Endowed Scholarship at the Law Center to honor Mark’s roommate and friend.

As an active Houston energy lawyer, Mark has helped to mentor students as well as support them during their Law Center experience with scholarship aid.

The Schroeder’s are deeply grateful for the education that they received while at LSU, and they wanted to give back to students to help them pursue their dreams. The couple made a five-year pledge for the annual $2,500 scholarship, which is awarded by the Scholarship Committee.

In 2019, LSU Law student Alyssa Craton received the Schroeder Annual Scholarship, helping her to achieve her life-long dreams. The Schroeder’s were so impressed with the LSU Law student that they created a second annual scholarship gift so that more students could be helped along their journey in law school. Their gift effectively doubles their impact on students beginning in 2020-21, and the second Schroeder Annual Scholarship will continue to do so for the next five years, as well.

“I have been practicing law for nearly 40 years, and whatever success I have enjoyed, has to be attributed to the training and education I received at the LSU Law School,” said Mark. “I graduated at a time when it was possible to finance your own education, largely free from debt. Giving for scholarships is a way for my wife and me to show our appreciation, to be able to help the Law Center recruit the best incoming classes, and for those students to enjoy the same great education, while also graduating with as little debt as possible.”

Mark has over 30 years of experience in the energy business area. He is the Executive V.P., General Counsel, and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer for Enable Mid-Stream Partners in Houston, TX.  He previously served as V.P. and Deputy General Counsel of CenterPoint Energy, Inc., overseeing the company’s regulatory attorneys. He also formerly worked with El Paso Energy.
