David Graham, 1969David B. Graham ('69) - of the law firm of Kaufman & Canoles in Williamsburg, Virginia, was recognized as one of Virginia's leading environmental attorneys in the November 29, 2012 issue of Virginia Business Magazine when he was featured in the "Legal Elite of the Commonwealth".

Honorable Bernette J. Johnson ('69) - Louisiana Supreme Court, was honored as a "Legend" by the A.P. Tureaud, Sr. Black Alumni Chapter of the LSU Alumni Association during its Annual Legends Forum. Justice Johnson will become the first black Chief Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court.

1970s

Eugene Groves, 1970Eugene R. Groves ('70) - of Taylor Porter, was selected by his peers for recognition in Best Lawyers' 2013 Lawyers of the Year as the "Baton Rouge Litigation - Construction Lawyer of the Year".

Samuel Caverlee, 1971Samuel W. Carverlee ('71) - of the Shreveport firm Cook, Yancey, King & Galloway, has been named Best Lawyers' 2013 Shreveport Personal Injury Litigation - Defendants "Lawyer of the Year."

Lawrence J. Centola, Jr. ('71) - has joined the New Orleans litigation firm of Scheuermann & Jones.

James Dore', 1973James. P. Dore' ('73) - of the law firm Kean Miller, was recently recognized by Best Lawyers for 2013.

Dean Sutherland, 1975Dean A. Sutherland ('75) - of counsel to the New Orleans firm of Jeansonne & Remondet, was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2013 in the areas of Admiralty & Maritime Law and Insurance Law.  He was also selected by his peers for inclusion in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of "Preeminent Lawyers", as AV Preeminent in Insurance Law.  Mr. Sutherland is an adjunct professor at the LSU Law Center, teaching Admiralty and Maritime Law, and he also coaches the Law Center teams that compete in the annual Judge John R. Brown Admiralty Moot Court Competition.

James Walsh, 1975James Walsh ('75) - a partner in the Ann Arbor, Michigan office of Detroit-based Bodman PLC, was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America 2013 in Commercial Litigation. He was also named a "Top Lawyer" for 2013 by DBusiness in the areas of Appellate law and First Amendment Law.

John Waters, 1975John Waters ('75) - of the firm Bienvenu, Foster, Ryan & O'Bannon, LLC, has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Judge Jay C. Zainey ('75) - United States District Court Judge Jay C. Zainey has been named the University of New Orleans 2012 Homer L. Hitt Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.  He was presented with the award at a ceremony in the fall.

Leonard Killgore, 1976Leonard L. Killgore, III ('76) - of the law firm Kean Miller, was recently listed in the 2012 edition of Chambers USA-America's Leading Lawyers for Business.  Mr. Killgore was also named by Best Lawyers, as one of the "Baton Rouge Lawyers of the Year" for 2013.

Steven G. "Buzz" Durio ('77) - a partner in  Durio, McGoffin, Stagg & Ackermann, was recently installed as treasurer of the Louisiana State Bar Association, and he will serve for a two-year term.

Bernard Johnson, 1977Bernard Johnson ('77) - of the Shreveport firm Cook, Yancey, King & Galloway, has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in America.

Larry M. Roedel ('77) - of the Roedel Parsons Koch Law Firm, was named to The Best Lawyers in America 2013 in the practice area of Civil Litigation.

Neil Buckingham ('78) - is the current Manager of State Relations for Shell Oil Company.

Carey Messina, 1978Carey J. Messina ('78) - of the law firm Kean Miller, was recently named by Best Lawyers, as one of the "Baton Rouge Lawyers of the Year" for 2013.

Joseph Shea, 1978Joseph L. "Larry" Shea, Jr. ('78) - of the law firm Bradley, Murchison, Kelly & Shea, has been elected President-Elect for the Louisiana State Bar Association, with his term being June 2013 to June 2014.  He will assume the Presidency for the year 2014-2015.  Mr Shea was also recognized by The Best Lawyers in America 2012-2013 for environmental ligitation, real estate litigation, and labor and employment litigation.  Mr. Shea was also named in Best Lawyers as the "Shreveport Best Lawyers Litigation - Environmental Lawyer of the Year" for 2013.  Shea was also recognized by Louisiana Super Lawyers for his work in class action/mass torts and energy & natural resources repeatedly from 2008 to 2012.

Susie Morgan (’80) – a former partner of Phelps Dunbar law firm, was nominated by President Barack Obama in 2011 to a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.  Susie was confirmed by the full Senate on March 28, 2012 and received her commission on March 30, 2012.

Joseph Hebert, 1981Joseph P. Hebert ('81) - of the Lafayette office of Liskow & Lewis, APLC, has recently earned his Masters of Law in Taxation, summa cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law.  Mr. Hebert was named valedictorian of his graduating class, having achieved a GPA of 4.00.

Katherine King, 1981Katherine W. King ('81) - of the law firm Kean Miller, was recently listed in the 2012 edition of Chambers USA-America's Leading Lawyers for Business.  Ms. King was also recognized by Best Lawyers for 2013.

James Brown, 1984James A. Patty McMurray, 1986Patty McMurray ('86) - a partner in the Baton Rouge office of Adams and Reese, has been selected to The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation in recognition of her dedication to the profession, service to society, and the commitment to the work of the ABF and the ideals and the objectives of the American Bar Association.

Shelly Deckert Dick (’88) – was nominated by President Barack Obama in April, 2012 to a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana.  Her nomination was confirmed on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 by the Senate Judiciary Committee, and full Senate confirmation is pending.

1990s

Angela Smith Bryson ('91) - co-founder of the Bryson Law Firm, was recently honored by the Better Business Bureau of South Central Louisiana as a recipient of their prestigious "Douglas Manship, Sr. Torch Award" for Ethics in Business.

Cary B. Bryson ('91) - co-founder of the Bryson Law Firm, was recently honored by the Better Business Bureau of South Central Louisiana as a recipient of their prestigious "Douglas Manship, Sr. Torch Award" for Ethics in Business.  Mr. Bryson was also recently featured in the Wall Street Journal with other financial professionals as one of America's Premier Experts "Financial Trendsetters".

Best.

Susannah Stinson, 2003Susannah O. Stinson ('03) - of the firm Neil Erwin Law, LLC, joined the firm in October 2012 after serving six years in administration at LSU-Shreveport as Associate Vice Chancellor for University Development.  She will assist the firm in its existing practice areas of land use regulation and zoning, municipal and local government law, real estate, and litigation matters, including smart growth advice to government and business.  While at LSU Law, Mrs. Stinton was a member of The Order of the Coif and was a Senior Editor on the Board of Editors for Volume 63 of the Louisiana Law Review.
