1970s

Edwin G. Preis, Jr. ('72), Senior Partner of Preis & Roy, has been appointed by the Supreme Court of Louisiana to the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board for a three year term of office. The Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board is charged with the responsibility of investigating all allegations of lawyer misconduct and with the responsibility of making recommendations to the Supreme Court of Louisiana when discipline is warranted.

Peter W. Arbour (’74) has been named Senior Vice President & General Counsel of the Willbros Group of companies. The Willbros Group is headquartered in Houston, Texas, and provides engineering and construction services throughout North America and in several countries outside North America.

David R. Dugas ('78), former United States Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana, will join the firm of  McGlinchey Stafford PLLC effective May 1, 2010. Dugas will be the chair of the firm’s national practice in energy and co-chair of its governmental investigations team. He will be based in the firm’s Baton Rouge office. Throughout his career Dugas has had extensive experience in two fields critical to the Gulf region: complex oil and gas matters and special investigations by the federal government and its many agencies.

1990s

Stephanie John ('97) recently joined Newfield Exploration Company in Houston, TX as legal counsel and compliance officer, focusing on employment law and corporate compliance issues.

Wiley Richmond Beevers ('98) represented U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Cairo, Egypt, March 24 – 25, 2010. He represented CBP in a Workshop on Effective Border Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights with Egyptian Customs as part of his duties as an attorney with the Office of International Trade, United States Customs and Border Protection, Washington, DC. His previous international presentations have included Russia and Ukraine, as well.

2000s

Sandi S. Varnado ('06) has been named Assistant Professor of Law at Loyola University in New Orleans. Her teching duties begin this fall.  Following her graduation from law school, Professor Varnado worked as a law clerk for the Honorable James L. Dennis of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and thereafter, as an associate at the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, P.C. where she practiced construction law, labor and employment law, and commercial litigaton.
