Internal Competitions
The Advocacy Programs sponsor a number of internal advocacy competitions throughout the academic year. Open only to upper-level LSU Law students (2L, 3L, and LLM candidates), these internal competitions provide students with the opportunity to develop and demonstrate advocacy skills to panels of skilled attorneys and judges. Each of the Law Center’s six internal competitions gives students the chance to develop a different advocacy skill-set:
- Appellate brief-writing and oral advocacy: Robert Lee Tullis Moot Court Competition (fall semester)
- Criminal trial practice: Ira S. Flory Mock Trial Competition (fall semester)
- Civil trial practice: Ira S. Flory Mock Trial Competition (spring semester)
- U.S. Supreme Court oral advocacy: Dean’s Cup Moot Court Competition (spring semester)
- Transactional practice and contract negotiation: Transactional Competition (spring semester)
LSU Law students who are interested in participating in Advocacy Programs competitions, trying out for teams, or taking advantage of our many skills training resources should self-enroll in the LSU Law Advocacy Competition Resources Moodle page. (Access to this page requires MyLSU login credentials.) Case files, team registration links, and other information for this year’s internal competitions will all be hosted on the Moodle page.
