    • 2021 Edition publishing date: coming soon.
    • Note: It is not necessary that you purchase the 2021 edition of the Civil Code. An older version of the Civil Code will suffice.  However, we will frequently refer to the Official Legislative Commentary to the Civil Code articles that we will study in this course. Not all versions of the Louisiana Civil Code contain Official Legislative Commentary. If your Civil Code does not contain Official Legislative Commentary, you will be expected to either access the Civil Code on Westlaw or Lexis or purchase a Civil Code that contains the required materials.

  • Used books should be widely available.

    This book is available digitally through CasebookConnect. Though I do not require it, I think it would be useful for you to have the digital materials that are associated with CasebookConnect ebooks, with which you may be familiar.

    Should you purchase the book as a CasebookConnect ebook, you will have access to digital materials associated with the book. If this is what you choose and you are comfortable navigating the book digitally, you need not purchase a hard copy at all.

    You may also purchase the digital materials separately or together with the hard cover book.

    So these are your options:

    • Hardcover + CasebookConnect: 9781454876670
    • Loose-leaf + CasebookConnect: 9781454896746
    • Digital Only CasebookConnect: 9781454897033
    • Rental + CasebookConnect: 9781454896838

  • You may re-use the casebook previously purchased for Professor Devlin’s class in the Fall:

    You may use the 11th ed. but the 12th ed. is recommended.  All page numbers given in outlines and assignments will be for the 12th ed.

    You need a current edition of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.  If you previously bought the Students Guide recommended by Professor Devlin in the Fall, you should use what you already purchased. In that case, you have nothing more to buy.

    If you did not already buy the Student’s Guide in the Fall, then you may choose whichever edition of the 2020 Federal Rules of Civil Procedure you prefer.  Here are some inexpensive options:

    (a)  ISBN 979-8607889586  ($11.99 – published by the Berkeley Law Womxn of Color Collective, as a fundraiser - https://www.amazon.com/Federal-Rules-Civil-Procedure-Constitution/dp/B087FJFZ25/);

    (b) ISBN 978-1640020726 ($17.99 – published by Michigan Legal Pub. - https://www.amazon.com/Federal-Rules-Civil-Procedure-2020/dp/1640020721/);

    (c) ISBN 9781934852392 ($25 – published by Legalpub.com  - https://www.legalpub.com/product-federal-rules-of-civil-procedure.html).

    I like the slim size, lightweight, and formatting of the Legalpub edition, but the content in these is the same – order based on personal preference or price.

     The use of electronic devices is not permitted during class.
