DO NOT USE THE 6TH EDITION.

(See http://home.westacademic.com/casebookPlus/students).

Students can also buy the digital learning aids separate and apart from the digital copy, something those who choose a used book might wish to do.  (See https://system.na1.netsuite.com/core/media/media.nl?id=610229&c=3668083&h=703f49a196c995617292&_xt=.pdf.)  You will find these tools highly useful.

THE DIGITAL STUDY AIDS ARE REQUIRED. What this means is that if you choose to buy a hard copy of the 7th Edition, you will have to purchase the digital aids separately.

The publisher has announced the following: “Students can purchase any of our books from our online store, http://store.westacademic.com/ . We do have eBook versions, at a substantial discount, for many of our books. Free shipping is available, and students can get a 15% discount on print books (and after June 1, also on eBooks) if they use this code upon checkout: LSULAW.”

  • Connected Quizzing for Legal Writing, Wolters Kluwer
  • Connected Quizzing for Legal Writing is NOT the same as Connected Casebook access.  You need BOTH for this course.  You have three options for purchasing Connected Quizzing—two options involve bundling Connected Quizzing with the purchase of the Connected Casebook version of the Legal Writing textbook; the third option involves purchasing Connected Quizzing separately.

Option 1:  Bundle Connected Quizzing with a new print textbook with Connected Casebook access using ISBN 9781543814330.  Wolters Kluwer is supposed to offer this bundle at www.wklegaledu.com for $145.  Other retailers, including the LSU Bookstore and Amazon, may also offer this bundle; however, you must check with those retailers for their bundle price. Under this option, your book will come bundled with an access code shrink-wrapped to the back cover of your textbook (do not throw this code away) or as a scratch-off sticker inside the front cover. Redeem this access code at www.casebookconnect.com. If your book does NOT come with a Connected Quizzing access code, you did not purchase the appropriate bundled product, and you will be required to purchase Connected Quizzing separately (Option 3).

Option 2:  Bundle Connected Quizzing with a digital-only Connected Casebook version of the book at a discounted price using ISBN 9781543830859.  Wolters Kluwer is supposed to offer this bundle for $104 at a URL to be released at a later date.

Option 3:  CQ-Only Direct Purchase.  If you already purchased your textbook elsewhere, you can purchase Connected Quizzing separately for $29/course at www.wklegaledu.com/CQ. After completing your purchase, click “Access Now” on the order confirmation page or go directly to CasebookConnect.com. If you are an existing CasebookConnect.com user, log into your account and you will find Connected Quizzing on your dashboard. If you are not an existing CasebookConnect.com user, click “First Time User” to complete your account set-up. You will not receive, nor will you need, an access code if you purchase directly from www.wklegaledu.com/CQ.

  • Richard Neumann, Jr., Shelia Simon, Suzianne D. Painter-Thorne (with Connected Casebook access), Legal Writing, 2019, 4th, Wolters Kluwer
  • You must purchase a format of the Legal Writing textbook that has Connected Casebook access.  Connected Casebook access refers to a textbook with lifetime access to the online e-book, plus access to interactive study questions and other learning tools available on CasebookConnect.comConnected Casebook access DIFFERS from Connected Quizzing, which is also a required course material.  As noted under the Connected Quizzing entry, you also have purchase options that allow you to bundle your Connected Casebook textbook purchase with the Connected Quizzing purchase.  However, below are some of the textbook format options to choose from that include Connected Casebook access (but NOT Connected Quizzing access).

Option 1: Buy a new print textbook (ISBN 9781543805192) or loose-leaf textbook (ISBN 9781543812138) from the campus bookstore or any other retailer. The access code inside your print or loose-leaf book will give you access to the online e-book and learning tools.  CAUTION: Buying a used book most likely means that the access code for the online resources has already been used and you will have to purchase access to the Connected Casebook online resources separately by purchasing a digital version of the book (Option 3).

Option 2: Rent a new print textbook (ISBN 9781543812145) for the entire course term that can be marked up without restriction from BarristerBooks.com. They will email you an access code for the online e-book and learning tools even before your print book arrives, and you get to keep your online access permanently even after you return your print book at the end of the semester.  CAUTION: You will need this same book again for your spring legal writing course; thus, rentals may not be the most cost-effective option.  Also, renting from a website other than BarristerBooks.com most likely means that the access code for the online resources has already been used, in which case you will have to purchase access to the Connected Casebook online resources separately by purchasing a digital version of the book (Option 3).

Option 3: Purchase digital-only access to your Connected Casebook (ISBN 9781543812169) from WKLegaledu.com and access the online e-book and Connected Casebook learning tools immediately.  CAUTION: Digital versions of the book (from retailers other than WKLegaledu.com) may NOT come with the needed access to the Connected Casebook online resources.

5021-8 & 10 Legal Research & Writing I [Tanner]
  • Ann M. Sinsheimer, Teresa K. Brostoff, Nancy M. Burkoff, Legal Writing, A Contemporary Approach, 2018, 2nd, West Academic Publishing
  • Unless you are buying a used version of this textbook, your purchase of a new textbook will likely come with the required Learning Library access.  Just be sure to check on this when you make your purchase by reading what your purchase comes with.

Textbook Purchase Options that also INCLUDE this course's required Learning Library access:

    CasebookPlus Softbound:  ISBN 9781683283478

The CasebookPlus softbound print book format also includes lifetime digital access to an eBook AND 12-month access to the (required) digital Learning Library.

eBook & Learning Library:  ISBN 9781640205321

The eBook and Learning Library format includes lifetime digital access to the eBook AND 12-month access to the (required) digital Learning Library.  It does NOT include a print book format.

Note: Presently, the only place where you can get an eBook & Learning Library option is through the West Academic website, www.westacademic.com.

  • Learning Library to Accompany "Legal Writing, A Contemporary Approach", 9781640205338, West Academic Publishing
  • If you bought a new textbook, whether in print CasebookPlus format or eBook format, your textbook purchase should include access to the Learning Library.  If it does not, or if you purchased a used textbook (which likely won't have the Learning Library access), you can purchase just the Learning Library for $35.00 by going to West Academic's online store at this link: https://www.westacademic.com/Learning-Library-to-Accompany-Sinsheimer-Legal-Writing-A-Contemporary-Approach-2d-9781640205338.  Bookstores lack the ability to sell the Learning Library for the textbook separate from the textbook itself.  Thus, presently, the only place where you can get the $35 Learning Library only option is through the West Academic website, www.westacademic.com.  From there, choose the option titled "Learning Library to Accompany Sinsheimer . . . Burkoff’s Legal Writing, A Contemporary Approach, 2d."

Note:  See information under the textbook entry or go to www.westacademic.com to learn about bundling options for purchasing the text and Learning Library.
