LSU Law Student
Background: Received a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sports medicine from Rice University; interned with the Houston Rockets’ strategy research department; conducted research on genotyping instrumentation with Nobel laureate, Dr. Robert Curl; member of the Legal Association of Women and the LSU Black Law Students Association.
Why Law School: I was always interested in coming to law school. As I moved from the chemistry department to kinesiology and later to the Rockets, I realized how essential law is to each of those enterprises in different ways. That is why I decided to come to law school.
Why LSU Law: I am a Baton Rouge native, and I wanted to return to Louisiana. Furthermore, I have heard the civilian and common law traditions described as two different languages. I want to be equipped to practice anywhere.
The Faculty: The faculty members at LSU Law are very accessible and helpful. Most professors have an open door policy and are willing to talk about anything from class to extracurricular interests. Professor John Devlin invited a group of students from my Basic Civil Procedure class to lunch to discuss how our first semester was progressing. The faculty are genuinely interested in seeing students succeed.
The Curriculum: Beginning in the first semester, we learn to speak the two major legal languages. I feel that the combination of the civilian and common law courses will prepare me to practice law in any place that I want.
Future Goals: At this point, I am not sure of a specialty, but I hope to practice in Louisiana after graduating.
Just for Fun: I like to go to LSU sporting events. Our section has a night out once a week. New Orleans is only about an hour away. There are also a lot of student-sponsored activities such as Barrister’s Bowl, Barrister’s Ball, and the flag football tournament.
