LSU Law Student
Background: McNeese State University, major in mass communications with a concentration in public relations/minor in sociology; 2004-05 MSU Homecoming Queen; state champion at the Louisiana State Bar Association Mock Trial Competition in Fall 2007; created and developed LSU Law's first student-run Trial Advocacy Workshop in Fall 2007; only second-year student selected to represent LSU in the National Trial Competition and the National Appellate Advocacy Team.
Why Law School: I knew I wanted to go to law school before the first day I stepped foot on McNeese's campus to pursue my undergraduate degree. I see the law as a way to help those who cannot help themselves. It is a way to give a voice to those who are voiceless and to me, as a person who loves to advocate for what I believe in, there is nothing worse than simply being voiceless while also having your rights violated. Being a lawyer gives me the power to give that voice to people who are desperately searching for it, who deserve it, and, by law, have a right to it.
Why LSU Law: I have always wanted to practice in Louisiana and therefore I found the civil law education provided by LSU to be extremely important and essential to my future success. LSU was always my first choice, so I did not choose LSU Law. LSU, thankfully, chose me. Before I began at LSU, I met Daphne James, Eric Eden, and Professor Howard L'Enfant. I was so pleasantly surprised with the amount of time each one of them gave to a prospective student. I spoke with each of them individually. When I walked out of the law school, I realized that what LSU Law offers is not just simply an education, but a community of professors and administrators who truly care about each student or prospective student on a personal and educational level.
Did LSU Law Prepare you for the Future: LSU Law prepared me in every way for my future career. I had amazing professors who taught me, not just the law, but how to practice law. The Trial Advocacy program and Moot Court program, of which Todd Bruno has done an amazing job with, has given me practical application of what I learned in law school. Because of those programs, I feel I am better prepared to practice law.
